We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Bible tells us that, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16).” Therefore, we believe that the Bible is trustworthy, and we read it to determine what God’s will is for us. The Bible also contains God’s message of hope for us all, as “it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).”
Jesus Christ is the head of the church, which is His body, as stated in Ephesians 1:22-23. We are individual members of the body of Christ and our desire is to be ‘Christians only’ and members of the church for which our Lord died.
The head of the church is Jesus Christ as stated in Ephesians 1:22-23. Our desire is to be ‘Christians only’ and members of the church our Lord died for.
We do not belong to any denomination, host organization, committees, boards or conventions, although there are many similar churches of Christ in the United Kingdom and around the world. Each congregation is autonomous and self-governing, with each set of elders (also called bishops or pastors) overseeing their respective flocks (1 Peter 5:1–3, 5). We hold to Christ’s teaching found in the scripture that all Christians are ministers (servants) and are called saints (1 Corinthians 1:2).
The foundation of our faith is Jesus’ death and resurrection. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 1:4), His ascension into heaven (Acts 1:7–10), His present ministry as our High Priest (Hebrews 2:17) and His return sometime in the future (Acts 1:11; John 14:2).
We believe that those who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 11:6; Romans 1:17), repent of their sins (Acts 17:30–31), confess Jesus as Lord and Saviour (Matthew 10:32–33; Acts 8:37), are baptised (immersed) for the forgiveness of their sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), and remain faithful in the Lord (Hebrews 10:35–36; Revelation 2:10) are born again into the Lord’s family: the church. In following this, a person is saved and makes a commitment to live each day of his life as a follower of Jesus Christ – a Christian.
